MISSION

The focus of the Missouri Civil Justice Reform Coalition is to promote civil justice reform and educate Missourians on civil justice reform. The MCJRC has a pro-business tort reform mission. The MCJRC is the only coalition able to effectively bring all businesses and businesses groups who are interested in tort reform to the table at the same time to work together to pass pro-business tort reform legislation.

Passing tort reform legislation in the Missouri legislature is our highest priority. The MCJRC also focuses on ensuring proper judicial interpretation or our laws as well as studying the courts in Missouri and finding areas of law that need improvement. Lastly, our mission also includes educating citizens about candidates for elected office.

Organized under Missouri law, the Missouri Civil Justice Reform Coalition, Inc., (“MCJRC”) is recognized as a 501(c)(4) tax exempt not-for-profit corporation.

Why an Independent Civil Justice
Reform Coalition?

Missouri has a great business climate.  However, the civil justice system in Missouri is seen nationally as being extremely anti-business.  Massive judgments, laws designed to create imbalance toward plaintiffs and procedures that are misused daily give Missouri a bad national reputation and make Missouri a tenuous place to start and grow a business.
In Missouri, the last large scale tort reform effort was successful in 2005.  Since 2005 all attempts to pass legislation were either killed in the legislature, watered down to the point of being ineffective, or subject to a veto by Missouri’s former Democrat Governor who was loyal to the plaintiff lawyers.

Prior to the MCJRC the business advocates would work without coordination and tort reform priorities took a back seat to other business priorities. The MCJRC is the only organization in Missouri that has been able to coalesce all business groups in Missouri with a unified voice.
